Golf Instruction – Club Face Release

by SimpleGolfigist on March 4, 2010

Many golfers struggle to fully understand how the golf club face releases during the golf swing. Release the club too soon and you end up with a wicked pull or duck hook. Hold on to the clubface release and you may end up with the “dreaded slice”. Here is a great golf instruction video from John Lubin that instructs you on the proper release of the clubface. If it ain’t square, the ball ain’t going nowhere.

John Lubin of The John Lubin Golf School (www.johnlubingolf.com) shows us the proper club face release technique.

I went from an 18 to a 4 handicap in a year and a half. I did it emulating my pro at my home course. You might of heard of Ben Hogan. He did that in the early stages as well. And I can guarantee you he was a much better golfer than you.

are you retarded? because you sure act like you are.

check out …HITMANHAWKY… vid on grip and release.. MUST SEE…you can skip the first 2 minutes to get to the good stuff..best on the tube

@durs what a dork you are. Even people who are “born with it” practice 80 hours a week. The goal isn’t to become a golf pro it’s to improve your game. Idiot.

juicyfruitzy March 4, 2010 at 9:18 pm

@durs6…I agree with you to an extent that some have it.But those who don’t unfortunately are constantly getting bad instruction, learning from folks who don’t understand the fundamentals of the swing. The vid explained what 90% of amateurs do and it is not a quick fix.I believe that this video should be viewed as many times as possible.Usage of the tee is an excellent way to see if you are doing it right. You need to do some soul searching & figure out the source of ur negativity. Bruised ego?

Releasing the clubface will certainly minimize slice as clubface position is the primary influence of direction. I think this is a quick fix and should be thought of if your ball is consistantly curving and finishing well to the right of target. However, I think that swing path needs to be given some thought at this stage. It’s because their path is out-to-in that the golfer has taught themselves not to release the club in the first place.

senorchipotle March 4, 2010 at 11:14 pm

so, why are you not a professional athlete?

durs6 March 4, 2010 at 11:45 pm

this is so crap just watch dalton mcreary teach golf its easy. i hit 348 yds 80% with 14% slice 16 yds variance and 6% hook. 20 yds. i play scratch and win a lot of comps. i also hit a tennis serve at 129 mph. your either born with it or your not, + plus 30 years practising. learn your limitations and be happy playing crap. the worst thing to do is to watch pro golfers and try to emulate them. when really your playing like a 12 year old girl. ( not even a pro one) EGOS MAN.

Wrists only hinge up and down in a golf swing. And this hinge is not a conscious move either. This so called clubface release will promote inconsistent ball striking typical of handsy players.

This is EXACTLY what Jim Flick is working with me on. I am a 7 handicap but have been stuck with shorter distances – when he showed me this same thing, I was surprised that I had never grasped this concept before. He showed me videos of Jack and others and sure enough, this release is present.

zaedaem March 5, 2010 at 1:46 am

At 3:10 he shows what you should not do. LOL that is the exact thing what you SHOULD do. Add body rotation to that move and you are square at impact.

zaedaem March 5, 2010 at 2:31 am

Huh, what a load of crap…

This is good stuff IF you want to become hooker from slicer. Otherwise stay away.

cutiepie4UReye March 5, 2010 at 3:03 am

Mr. Lubin thank you very much for all your videos best tips ever…your the best!!

kennypooper March 5, 2010 at 5:55 am

The guy is right, but there is timing in every other sport. I agree it’s a feeling. The easiest way to learn a good release it to take a divot (big divot) in front of the ball. The only way to do this is to keep your head BEHIND the ball. That is what allows u to release the club in front of the ball. Cheers!

PoeticAdaptation March 5, 2010 at 6:08 am

you sir are a moron

BrngBckOldCOB March 5, 2010 at 7:04 am

see the thing is (I finally shot in the 70′s yesterday, 77, i’m stoked) this is good but too much thinking. You can just feel the release as opposed to “muscling it”. That’s my take.

jcbak March 5, 2010 at 8:00 am

You’re right..but right arm straight can cause a fllip too. His method keeps the left wrist flat which is important…if the left wrist breaks down….DISASTER….including hooks, fat shots, etc.

siqbeatz March 5, 2010 at 8:12 am

this guy is VERY informative! Im psyched!
